An oil on canvas by the French Impressionist painter Claude Monet, titled Nympheas (1905) sold for $43.76 million at an Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale held Nov. 7 by Christie’s in New York City. Also, an oil on card mounted on canvas by Wassily Kandinsky, titled Studie fur Improvisation 8 (1909) soared to $23 million (a new world auction record for the artist); Joan Miro’s 1925 painting titled Peinture made $13.75 million; and Pablo Picasso’s Buste de femme (1937) brought $13 million. Prices include a 12 percent buyer’s premium.
